Authorities' involvement in shipments
Multiple sources are reporting that shipments of Lady Gaga's latest album have been impounded by the Lebanese authorities. The Lebanese reason said the record was questionable to Christians. It also said that it is in "bad taste."
"Judas" is one of Lady Gaga's songs banned from Lebanese radio. It is on the "Born This Way" record. The song has been criticized by many religious groups in the United States and abroad for its irreverent lyrics.
Calling it a stunt
Evidently "Lady Gaga tries to continue to shock Catholics and Christians in general: she dresses as a nun... she swallows the rosary. She has now morphed into a caricature of herself." This is what the Catholic League president Bill Donohue said after saying the song was just a "stunt."
Organized religion something Gaga doesn't like
How Lady Gaga feels about organized religion is quite clear. She spoke with the Guardian when making a statement where she said: "The influence of institutionalized religion on government is vast. So religion then begins to affect social values and that in turn affects self-esteem, bullying in school, teen suicides, all those things."
Fans in Lebanon get a choice
Supporters in Lebanon are not at a loss. There are other choices. The record was purchased on Amazon.com by one Lebanese blogger.
There are difficulties like this in Lebanon all the time. Any bothersome entertainment gets banned. The country didn't allow the 2004 production by Ron Howard of "The Da Vinci Code" to be released. It was based off of Dan Brown's novel.
Malaysia prohibits also
The album's title track "Born This Way" has also been prohibited from the airwaves in Malaysia. Lady Gaga responded by saying, "What I would say is for all the young people in Malaysia that want those words to be played on the radio, it is your job and it is your duty as young people to have your voices heard."
