Biography:
Damian Ishtaro is the only child of Karn and Andrea Ishtaro. He spent his childhood in Tyrol, Austria, and moved to Vienna when he was 19 to start studying physics.
Under his father Damian began to train sword fighting at the age of 10. What Damian didn’t know then was that his father was an descendant of the knights who fought with Gaia against Deirdre. Also, as Damian bore the Mark of the Chosen, a triangular shaped port-wine stain on his chest, Karn decided to go into hiding and cut all bonds to his order to ensure his child was safe from utilization by his order on the one hand and being murdered by the followers of the dark goddess on the other. Because as it has been foretold the bearer of the mark will finish the fight Gaia lost at the time of the schism.
What no one knew was that the bearer of the mark was not only a descendant from Gaia directly, but also chosen by the creator to be the vessel for the soul of an angel, the angel of life. This angel, and the grasp he has upon Damian’s soul, is the reason for some of his character traits: So is his misanthropic nature a direct consequence of an angel’s viewpoint, who sees humans as sad animals at best and as a stupid unified mass at worst. Because an angel is a higher being, who knows only his mission and how to accomplish it, Damian has a rather calculating personality that is first concerned about reaching his goals before thinking about others. But also is this angel’s soul to some extend the reason for his righteous and heroic nature, who often sacrifices himself on behalf of others. This may seem contradictory to the aforementioned, but is explainable if you understand that if somebody is important to Damian he sees it as his mission to ensure no harm happens to the ones dear to him.
Somehow Karn felt that Damian would need fighting skills so he started teaching him how to handle a sword. But not only did his father show him the art of sword fighting, but also introduced him to the old faith. This faith with all its rituals was passed down by the knights of Gaia and was thus more than 8000 years old. Damian was true to both his fight and spiritual training, where he was on the best way to surpass his teacher. Especially with his spiritual training he showed an exceptional connection to Gaia’s spirit.
This became especially clear December 2004, 1 week before the tsunami hit. Damian was very sick then, struck by high fever and steadily uttering words no one could understand. On the 26th of December, Damian lost consciousness after screaming the words “Deirdre! No!” One day later Damian’s fever was mystically cured and he had no remembrance of the events of the last week whatsoever. Nobody knew than that what caused Damian’s sickness was a near mortal blow that struck Gaia, which also was the tsunami’s source....
Damian soon found interest in how things worked, so he moved to Vienna after his year compulsory community service, which every male in Austria has to attend, to start studying physics at the University of Vienna. Tragedy struck when both of his parents were killed at a car accident when Damian was 21.
But because Karn Ishtaro used a large portion of his not unsubstantial fortune to establish a trust which his son gained control over after his father’s death, Damian has not to worry about money any more. Damian tried to carry on his sword training, but without his father he felt he missed someone to guide him. His search for other teachers also didn’t bare much fruit, so now he’s training his skills more half-heartedly and out of some strange sense of remembrance rather than of real commitment.
In Vienna Damian soon made a friend in Miguel Garcia de Montoya Montemajor (name subject to change), a Spanish physics student with a bad attitude but a heart of gold. Miguel is sort of Damian’s reminder that life is foremost slapstick and only seldom to be taken seriously, because his over the top latino rapper affectation often earns them both rather awkward but nonetheless funny situations.
As far as other friends or women are concerned Damian likes diversity. He would often chuck a girlfriend just because she gets to boring or annoying, and he also has no problem telling her just that.
At the time the story begins to unfold, Damian just turned 23 and lives in a roomy apartment at the edge of Vienna.
